Call for Extended Abstracts

The REvaluation Conference 2027 invites scholars, policymakers, practitioners, and evaluators to contribute to an international dialogue on the future of research, technology, and innovation evaluation. Under the overarching theme and motto “Scouting paths on shifting maps”, the conference explores how evaluation can remain meaningful, responsible, and constructive in times of accelerating change and growing pressure on science and innovation systems.

We welcome submissions of extended abstracts for academic contributions, policy contributions, case studies, and practical insights from a broad range of topics related to the topics listed on our scope page.

  • All extended abstracts must be submitted via the EasyChair system: https://easychair.org/cfp/revaluation2027

  • Abstract submissions will undergo peer review by an international panel of academic and evaluation experts.

  • Authors of accepted contributions will be invited to present their work in either presentation sessions or poster sessions.

  • Accepted papers may also be published as part of the REvaluation 2027 Conference Proceedings.
The conference proceedings will be published early 2027 as a special issue #60 of the fteval Journal for Research and Technology Policy Evaluation. Both, academic and practical contributions are invited for paper publications. For further information for authors of the fteval Journal please visit the fteval Website: https://fteval.at/en/journal/

Submission deadline for Extended Abstracts is 31 July 2026.

Call for ideas for Special Sessions, Panel Discussions and Workshops

In addition to submitting an Extended Abstract, participants may propose dedicated formats that help shape the conference programme. There are three added formats calling for proposals: Special Sessions, Discussion Panels, and Workshops.

Submission deadline for Special Sessions and Panels is 15 May 2026.

Submission deadline for Workshops is 15 October 2026.

Please submit your ideas to conference@revaluation2027.eu.

Special Sessions

Special Sessions allow participants to highlight a specific topic within the conference’s predefined (sub)themes. Proposers may define a focused area of interest and mobilise their community to submit contributions aligned with a topic of the conference.

Approved Special Sessions will be announced on the conference website. Authors submitting extended abstracts may either apply to the general thematic strands or indicate that their contribution is intended for a specific Special Session.

All submitted abstracts will undergo the regular peer-review process. If a sufficient number of positively evaluated contributions is received, the Special Session will be included in the programme. The proposers may then chair or serve as discussants in the session. The review process, final selection of papers, and overall programme design remain the responsibility of the conference organisers.

Special Sessions provide an opportunity to give visibility to emerging or particularly relevant topics and to invite peers from specific communities to engage with the conference.

Proposals for the Special Sessions should briefly describe topic and its relevance to the conference themes. Submission deadline for Special Sessions and Panels is 15 May 2026 - However, Special Sessions will be published immediately after acceptance, so we recommend not to wait for the deadline!

Discussion Panels

A limited number of (2–3) Discussion Panels will be included in the main programme. Panels are designed as plenary or large-group formats addressing cross-cutting or strategically relevant issues.

Proposals for the Discussion Panels should briefly describe:

  • the topic and its relevance to the conference themes,

  • the proposed format and guiding questions,

  • potential panel participants,

  • any specific requirements.

The organisers will centrally assess proposals and may suggest combining or refining submissions where appropriate and in communication with the proposers. Submission deadline for Special Sessions and Panels is 15 May 2026.

Workshops

Workshops are interactive, small-group formats focused on learning, exchange, or practical engagement. They will be scheduled either during the main conference days or, if appropriate, as a dedicated pre-conference session.

Proposals for the Workshop should indicate:

  • the workshop facilitators,

  • the objectives and content,

  • the intended format and level of interaction,

  • the maximum number of participants,

  • any technical or spatial requirements

Submission deadline for Workshops is 15 October 2026.
